FYI: How to add a generic email box to your Outlook, option 1

There are a couple of ways to add a generic email to your Outlook.  Pick the option that is recommended in your team’s best practices document or works best for you.

This option will add a generic email box to your Outlook in the same way your work email was.  To use this option, it usually requires you to have full access or owner status to everything.  For the generic process or for basic troubleshooting, check out this Microsoft support article or how-to video.

  • Pros:  all emails sent & deleted remain within this generic email box’s folders vs within your personal work email.

  • Cons:  if you have your work email set-up to receive calendar and task reminder notifications, you will also get ones from this email box.

 Instructions

  1. Select File > Add Account.

  2. Enter in the email address you want to add & click on “Connect”

    1. You should not be prompted for anything else, including a password.  If it does, make sure the generic email address is entered & try by-passing the password field.

    2. If you can’t get to the next step, there is probably a conflict in the way the email box was set-up.  You were probably added through the back-end (owner permissions) as well as given permissions through the folder data properties (could be a variety of levels).  Contact 77000 to help sort this out.

    3. If the problem still persists, you’ll need to add the email box using the other option.

  3. You should now be connected.  It will require you to restart your Outlook.  It will then look something like this.  If possible, try and do step 4 before restarting your Outlook.

  4. IMPORTANT STEP:  Turn off the cache mode by clicking on “Change” and remove the check mark for the “Use Cached Exchange Mode…”

Thanks!
