Update - Jan 30 2025

Hi everyone,

In follow-up to the update below, I’m writing with an update regarding the Sr. Director, Digital Talent Resourcing position that was vacated by Steve Chapman.

I’m happy to share that Hugo Croft-Levesque has accepted a 7-month temporary assignment to continue supporting the marketplace team, digital talent recruitment, and the digital talent product (Job Store) team. Hugo was offered this position as he recently competed and was first on the eligibility list for the Band 4 Director, Cloud Services competition.

We’re still looking at options for backfilling the Band 3 Senior Project Manager role for the Digital Marketplace. In the interim, folks who reported to Hugo—Jason, Ian, and Inderdeep—will continue to report to Hugo along with Gary, Tasha, and Hilary.

We have some exciting work ahead to look at the marketplace and talent resourcing function and how best to support our mandate around strengthening connected services. I appreciate having Hugo’s business perspective as we approach this work with our clients, vendors, and public service partners.

Thank you to Hugo for providing some interim coverage after Steve’s departure, and thank you to everyone for your patience as I know there was some uncertainty about the next steps.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Happy 2025 everyone,

I hope folks had a nice break and/or some quieter work time to over the holiday period. I’m writing with a staffing update and congratulations. Prior to the holiday break Steve Chapman was successful on a two-year TA in an Executive Director role with Social Development and Poverty Reduction. Steve will be working in their information management division as lead for Procurement and Negotiations. It’s a great opportunity to advance procurement and vendor relationship for a vital sector in alignment with our Digital Plan and Digital Code of Practice.

While losing Steve will be a big loss for DTC and DO, I am always happy to see our team grow and stretch their wings to new challenges and adventures. I am thankful for Steve’s contributions to our leadership team, the team’s he supported, and to DTC at large. He brought the marketplace to another level of customer use, helped advance our strategic planning and branch rigor, and cared for all members of his team along the way.

Steve’s last day will be this Friday, January 10th. Please join me in congratulating Steve!

At our branch meeting next week I’ll follow up on next steps for backfilling the role.

Objective and Key Results

We’re nearing the end of quarter 3 of our work with several pieces of estimated work done or near completion. We’re also finalizing our key results for Q4 and will share those before the 24th. For 2025/26 I may have been a bit ambitious to get a head start on planning for DTC. Coming into January formal mandates will arrive.  From there we can align our work to updated DO objectives to ensure we’re having impact and can tell the stories that help connect how digital and data work has impact for public servants and peoples of BC.

Congratulations

To Teresa Lee on her win as the successful candidate on our recent competition for our first IS30 Lead, Service Design. I’m happy for Teresa, that she remains with the DTC team and that we’re making progress in demonstrating the scope and value of systemic service design in our jobs and classifications.

Pause on hiring

I am sure most of you have read the note from our Head of the Public Service regarding the temporary pause on external hiring. I recognize some of you may have questions and encourage you to bring this forward to your supervisor and/or directly to me. My desk/virtual door is always open.
